November 4 marked a moment for the history books, but for many members of the campus community it was also personal. Scholars from the University helped provide practical ideas and an intellectual framework for both major-party candidates. Students, staff and faculty volunteered for the campaigns. From the Paris Center to the Divinity School, units used the race as a teaching moment. And when the votes were being tallied, members of the University community gathered together—around big-screen TVs at the Reynolds Club, at parties large and small, and amid the throngs at Grant Park, to watch a neighbor and co-worker declared to be the 44th President of the United States.
